What is a plant oil, this treasure for every skin type?

The organic plant oils are widely used in organic cosmetics. They come from seeds, kernels, oilseeds, or plants that have many properties that help protect, nourish, regulate, and regenerate cell tissue: antioxidant properties, rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids (omega 3-6-7-9).

At Terre de Mars we have therefore chosen to include them in most of our cosmetics so as to give them the place of queens they deserve.

Used for millennia, they are found both in cooking and in natural medicine and cosmetics. Unlike conventional cosmetics, where they are mainly replaced by silicones and mineral oils, which are much less expensive but also devoid of all the benefits that plant oils are packed with.

The methods of extracting plant oils

They must be flawless in order to guarantee high quality, preserve their nutritional elements, and protect the body from any toxicity in order to offer a multitude of natural benefits for the body and hair. For this, there are two extraction methods:

Mechanical extraction : the most valuable, because it is precisely this method that makes it possible to obtain first cold-pressed oils with no additives. The oil is then pure and as natural as can be. It is the guarantee that all their benefits and active ingredients remain intact.

Chemical extraction : it presses the same fruits and seeds but with a high rise in temperature as well as the addition of different solvents and additives. The resulting oils are nevertheless of lower quality.

We recommend that you always turn to so-called “virgin” and “first cold-pressed” plant oils, preferably from organic farming.

Each oil has its own benefits. For example, carrot oil is protective and self-tanning, calendula oil has soothing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergy properties, and rosehip oil is softening, regenerating, anti-wrinkle, healing, anti-spot, soothing…

You should choose a plant oil based on your skin type.

Beyond dry or oily skin, plant oils are suitable for all skin types if chosen carefully. Each one has its own density, thickness, texture, richness, and above all its composition. Prickly pear oil, for example, is very rich in antioxidants, which makes it a wise choice for mature skin.

How should plant oils be used?

For the body, massage each area—the bust, arms, stomach, and thighs—with circular movements. Your skin will be left radiant, silky, and firmer.

For the face, apply the oil or treatment with smoothing movements, starting from the center and moving toward the contours of the face. The skin will be even softer and more supple.

For the hair, apply the product directly while massaging it in (don’t forget the scalp). Then wrap it in a towel and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes to nourish the hair and make it shinier.

Finally, one last tip, and an important one at that: there is a very specific way to apply your plant oil. A plant oil should be applied to damp skin. In this way, it will penetrate much more easily and therefore be even more effective!

Finally, because plant oils are fragile, choose hygienic packaging and use them within 6 months of opening.
